"This will be the first augmented reality app that will allow you to make a decision to buy," said Michael Valdsgaard, IKEA's Leader of Digital Transformation, on the Phone Arena page.
Thus, this is a very important moment in the development of AR as a tool. This app lets users try virtual furniture at home, and may also make purchases from within the app.
The app is expected to launch this fall, and Valdsgaard says that they will debut with 500 to 600 in-app products. After that, the new offer will automatically appear in the AR app.
IKEA hopes to work with Apple not only because of the technology, but also because of the many iOS users that Apple can take. Valdsgaard says the Apple-IKEA app will instantly become the largest AR platform in the world.
IKEA put more emphasis on technology than most furniture companies because it is seen using social media, mobile online retailers and third parties to improve the operation of nearly 400 stores it runs.
