The center booster can only activate one of the three machines needed to land. That's why he failed to land on a drone ship. Booster just dropped into the water and destroyed. Not only that, the two engines on the drone ship were also damaged when the booster exploded.
"The explosion was powerful enough to damage two ship engines and showered the deck with metal strips," SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said. However, one booster that failed to land was not a big deal. Overall, testing the launch of Falcon Heavy ended successfully.
The rocket slid from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 15:45 Eastern Time. About two and a half minutes of rocket launch, two rocket booster breaks off and returns to land on Earth. Both landed at the launch site in Landing Zone 1 and Landing Zone 2 on the Cape.
