The Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) was established in 2015, and has the goal of creating a single standard for all stylus manufacturers. This standard is aimed at making future generation products useful in various devices.
Currently, every manufacturer produces their proprietary stylus, and is not compatible with other devices. This means users can not use Apple Pen on Lenovo tablets. Not just Google, a number of other manufacturers also join USI namely Lenovo, Huawei, and Intel.
Stylus with USI protocols will support two-way connectivity to keep connectivity between the device and the stylus remains stable and seamless. One-way connectivity supporting the stylus currently available on the market, can cause jam if the signal conflict with other signal from tablet or phone.
Another feature of this protocol is the implementation of preferences, so that the stylus can change better and smooth, although it also depends on the device used by the user.
The Stylus became a popular support tool among smartphones at the start of the touch screen era, but a number of new devices were later powered with its proprietary device, for example Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
Currently, most of the stylus is used on tablets like Apple iPad Pro, as well as on touch-skating laptops like Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11.
