Xiaomi is not the first smartphone company to remove 3.5 mm audio jack on the device. Previously Apple also do the same thing on the iPhone 7. Does Xiaomi trail Apple?
Xiaomi apparently has its own reasons for this. Xiaomi reveals the audio jack is eliminated to give more space for the battery. Thus, the capacity of the Mi 6 battery can be improved.
"Smartphones are an integrated product and the components in their internal parts are very important. With the removal of audio jacks, we can get room for other components, such as batteries with greater capacity," Xiaomi said in a statement.
Xiaomi added, the use of USB Type C to connect the smartphone with an audio jack is so common. Although the audio jack is removed, Xiaomi is committed to continuously delivering better sound quality.
Just to note, Xiaomi Mi 6 which has a 5.15 inch screen with the same as its predecessor. But the company decided to increase battery capacity 10.5 percent larger, from 3,000mAh to 3.350mAh.
This dual camera smartphone eliminates 3.5 mm audio jack previously placed to the top of Mi 5. If only the Mi 6 audio jack is placed in the same position as the Mi 5, Xiaomi may have difficulty in placing the double camera.
In addition to supporting the placement of dual cameras and larger capacity batteries, there are other advantages provided by the Mi 6 at the expense of the audio jack, ie resistance to water splashing.
Although the audio jack is removed, Xiaomi lovers need not worry because the company provides a USB Type C connector on the Xiaomi packaging. Thus, users can connect headphones to the Mi 6 through the connector. In addition, users can also use bluetooth headphones to listen to music through Mi 6.
