Through this partnership, Baidu will use MobileEye's RSS (Responsibility Sensitivity Safety) model for their Apollo Project open-source program as well as a portion of Apollo Pilot's automotive commercial car.
In addition, Baidu will also use the Surround Computer Vision Kit from Mobileye as part of an autonomous car system that will be marketed in China.
Introduced in 2017, RSS is designed to make autonomous cars understand the safe driving concept that humans use. For example, ensure that the car is within a reasonable distance with the vehicle in the vicinity.
The purpose of RSS is to create a standard definition of safe driving and a set of protocols that can be used by autonomous car systems to ensure that it does drive well.
Mobileye and Baidu will work together to customize RSS with Chinese people's driving and road styles.
While Surround Computer Vision Kit consists of 12 cameras mounted around the vehicle. Autonomous cars will also be equipped with software to read and interpret pictures, ensuring the car knows the surrounding conditions.
