Artificial Intelligence (AI) consumer product developers will work together in the field of smart home protocols, customized IoT chips and AI-powered smart hardware.
The announcement was released on Wednesday at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) technology exhibition in Las Vegas, USA. Miffy Chan, Head of Alibaba A.I.Labs expressed the enthusiasm and purpose of such cooperation.
"We are excited to work with MediaTek to explore collaboration in the IoT ecosystem Our cloud and AI computing capabilities, combined with MediaTek's advanced technology in chip design, can deliver unique advantages for our connectivity solutions for smart homes," Chan said.
This collaboration is called IoTConnect using IoT protocols built by A.I Labs. This initiation will be integrated with a new Bluetooth chip designed by Alibaba with MediaTek.
IoTConnect will bring access to IoT-based home appliances to automatically work with Tmall Genie, Alibaba's smart-based assistant.
The IoTConnect protocol aims to promote unified connectivity standards among other smart devices. For consumers, this means they can access multiple devices at once through a single portal, without having to go through different applications and keywords.
This means the development of smart home ecosystems controlled by sound will be easier.
In China, Tmall Genie alone won the local market by being the only smart speaker who sold over a million pieces during the online shopping festival event in China.
This innovation is a challenge for other technology giants to create a smart home ecosystem that leads to streamlining the interconnectivity and use of hardware and software.
