Facebook sends the Relief Team to help Puerto Rico return online

Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that the company sent a team of connectivity to the island of Puerto Rico to provide emergency telecommunications assistance that has largely gotten a communication comedy point after Hurricane Maria defeated the island last week.

Zuckerberg also said that Facebook donated advertisements to get important information to people in the region about how to get help and stay safe.

"With 90% of the island's cell towers not operating, people cannot connect with people they know and more difficult for rescue workers to coordinate relief efforts."

In addition to sending a team to bring Puerto Rico back online, Zuckerberg announced that Facebook split a $ 1.5 million donation to the World Food Program and Net Hope. Puerto Rico has no power following the destruction of Hurricane Maria. 90.9 percent of the island's cell towers are offline.
