Uber CEO Apologizes for London

Dara Khosrowshahi
After the London Transportation Agency decided not to renew the Uber license to operate in the British capital, the new CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi has made an open letter to the Evening Standard apologizing for Uber's many mistakes.

"Although Uber has started a revolution in the way people use transportation in the world, it is also true that we have made some mistakes. On behalf of all Uber employees in the world, I apologize for the mistakes we made," Khosrowshahi said.

Uber started operations in London 5 years ago. However, they do not face competition like in other cities. While in the United States, Lyft is Uber's main competitor.

Explaining his decision not to renew the Uber license, the Transport Agency for London (TfL) said that "Uber's approach and character indicates a lack of corporate responsibility regarding issues that could impact public safety and security."

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan supports this decision. "All companies in London must abide by the rules and meet the high standards we expect particularly regarding customer safety," Khan said on Friday. "Providing innovative services should not sacrifice customer safety and convenience."

Uber had until October 13 to appeal TfL's decision. In his letter, Khosrowshahi promised they would take this step. Now, Uber is still allowed to operate in London.
