Sony Releases Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact With Android 8.0 Oreo

Sony launched Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact at IFA 2017. Both of these smartphones will be a substitute of XZ and X Compact released last year.

The main changes that Sony gave to the two new phones were the use of Snapdragon 835 processor from Qualcomm and design. Xperia XZ1 now has a framework made of metal completely. In addition, both of these phones will be one of the first smartphone that has been using Android 8.0 Oreo.


Both Sony smartphones will already be equipped with Motion Eye camera system made by Sony is the first time in XZ Premium. The system uses a 19MP sensor with Predictive Capture which will take pictures a few seconds before the user presses the shutter button. The goal is that no important moments are missed.

The camera of this phone will also be able to record 720p super slow motion video at 960fps also 4K video at the standard speed. Sony also provides SteadyShot electronic stabilization for video capture.

Unfortunately, there is no stabilization feature to take pictures. XZ1 is equipped with a 13MP front camera while the XZ1 Compact has an 8MP front camera with super wide angle lens. 

One of the new features of XZ1 is the 3D scanning mode. The camera phone can scan an object and save it as a 3D image, which can then be sent to a 3D printer or shared. Sony plans to integrate this feature with the game so that users can scan their heads and use the image as an avatar. However, this cooperation has not been completed yet.

XZ1 has a 1080p HDR screen of 5.2 inches while the Compact has a 720p screen with a smaller size, 4.6 inches. Both are coated with Gorilla Glass 5 and have IP68 certification, which means it can be put in water to a depth of 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes.  

Both use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 as a processor, 4GB of RAM and a battery capacity of 2,700 mAh. XZ1 has 64GB of internal memory while Compact has 32GB of memory. Both are equipped with a microSD slot.
