Replacement Screens Can Be Hacked Hacks Mobile

Hacked Mobile Phone
In a recent study, researchers from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel explained how the replacement screen on mobile phones can be modified in such a way as to control your smartphone.

So, if your phone screen is broken and you want to replace it, the attacker simply embed the integrated chip on the mobile phone replacement screen.

From this research, the research team managed to manipulate the communication system on Huawei Nexus 6P and LG G Pad 7.0.

Researchers can record keyboard input, capture user photos and send them via email, install apps on the phone and bring users to the site for phishing.

In addition researchers can also take advantage of existing weaknesses in the operating system kernel phone.

As if that's not bad enough, the researchers say, the screen that has been implanted this evil chip can be made to look like a regular screen.

This means that even mobile phone technicians may not be able to distinguish the regular screen with a dangerous screen. Not only that, this attack can be done without being detected by anti-virus software.

Such attacks are known as "chip-in-the-middle".

To conduct the attack, the researchers used the Arduino platform on the ATmega328 micro-controller module.

In addition they also use micro-controller STM32L432. They also added that almost any other micro-controller could be used to carry out this attack.

The researchers then used a blower to separate the touch screen with the controller to access the copper plate. Then, they will be soldering copper wires to pair the chip to the device.

The researchers say, all this can be hidden when the devices whose screens need to be replaced are reassembled. This attack can not only be launched for Android but also iPhone.
