Reported by Tech Crunch, according to a source, the process of restructuring is not just layoffs, but includes an organizational merger that includes enterprise consumer units and one or more SME divisions.
Microsoft will announce the restructuring process next week. But until recently, the software giant declined to comment.
This is not the first time Microsoft's layoff plans are blowing in the media. Previously, Puget Sound Business Journal, Bloomberg and The Seatlle Times reported most of the layoffs were related to stepping up the emphasis on cloud services within Microsoft's sales team.
The reorganization is expected to be the impact of leadership change this year. Executives Judson Althoff and Jean-Philippe Courtois took over the marketing and sales division of Microsoft, following the resignation of COO, Kevin Turner.
