Qualcomm Will Release Fingerprint Scanner Under Screen and Metal

Qualcomm chipset maker company promises the presence of fingerprint scanner technology under the screen, metal, glass, and underwater. It was announced by Qualcomm at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai China.

Quoting CNET pages, Qualcomm calls the first device to use fingerprint technology under glass and metal will go on sale in early 2018. Meanwhile, for devices using under-screen fingerprint technology will go on sale in mid-2018.

Qualcomm said it will start providing its technology samples for smartphone maker in October 2017.


Qualcomm's Vice President of Product Management Seshu Madhavapeddy said, "This technology will work on the current generation of Android and future generations."
 
Because the fingerprint sensor uses ultrasonic technology, the fingerprint panel will be able to detect heart rate and monitor blood flow as an extra security key.

Just for information, moving the fingerprint scanner below the screen is the next step for smartphone pembesut to deliver a smartphone that bezel-less design.

Last February, in order to present the bezel-less design and eliminate the Home button, the Samsung Galaxy S8 moved its fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone.
 
Until now, the trend of smartphone bezel-less still continues. Some time ago, the phone is dibesut by Android creator Andy Rubin, Essential Phone, also presents a fingerprint sensor on the back. Even so with the iPhone 8 who reportedly will perform similar steps.

China's smartphone maker Vivo is also likely to announce the first mobile phone to integrate on-screen fingerprint sensors at the Shanghai Mobile World Congress (MWC) event. This sensor will most likely work with older generation Qualcomm chipsets from the 200s to the newly announced series, Snapdragon 630 and 660.
