Makiyama is not a new person at Sony, he has been part of the Japanese company since 1998.
Makiyama began his career in sales and marketing in 2007 in Dubai, and then took on a new challenge in Saudi Arabia as head of Sony Saudi Arabia representative office in 2011. In 2014, he was appointed Managing Director of Sony Eurasia (Turkey).
"It has been my ambition to get to know new cultures and meet new people, friends, and teams. I love working and talking with local teams and colleagues, and sharing new moments together, "Makiyama said through his written statement.
He claimed to be interested in leading Sony Indonesia and hopes to find the uniqueness of Indonesian culture and market.
"Indonesia is my fourth overseas assignment and the fourth coincidence is a Muslim country, I have a great curiosity and eager to find the uniqueness of Indonesian culture and market," he said.
This year, he continued, Sony has a surprise including the latest Alpha cameras, new OLED televisions, headphones with noise cancelling feature, PlayStation VR, and more.
Without understanding and adapting to the uniqueness of a culture, Makiyama added, the company will not be able to target consumers precisely at the right place and time.
"I will spend most of the time on the field to understand how our customers receive the products and services we provide, I am looking forward to meeting many people and forging many new friends and partnerships," he concluded.
