Reported by Phone Arena, the total smartphone shipments during the first three months of this year as many as 347.4 million units. The number increased from 332.9 million units in Q1 2016.
Samsung leads the smartphone market with total shipments of 79.2 million units and 22.8 percent market share. The other top five positions are respectively occupied by Apple (14.9%) with 51.6 million smartphone shipments, Huawei (9.8%) with 34.2 million units, Oppo (7.4%) with 25.6 million Units, and Vivo (5.2%) with total smartphone shipments of 18.1 million.
The rest is owned by a combination of various other smartphone vendors with a total shipments of 138.7 million units. The number decreased compared to Q1 2016, which reached 140 million units.
Vice President of IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Device Trackers program, Ryan Reith, said the latest data shows the smartphone industry is not dead and will continue to grow. "We are confident the industry will show some growth in 2017 and the first three months of the results support this argument," Ryan explained in a written statement.
