Citing Business Insider, Intel has reportedly declared that their Thunderbolt 3 device will be a royalty-free product starting next year. This provides incentives to device manufacturers to be able to use this technology in their products.
Just to note, Intel's Thunderbolt 3 uses USB Type C to connect devices to computers and other peripherals.
If all this external hard disk, keyboard, mouse, or printer connected with USB cable, now could be all connected using USB Type C.
USB Type C also offers some more benefits than USB which is now used by standard, one of which is a faster transfer process. For example data transfer via USB with 10Gbps speed. While Tunderbolt 3 and USB Type C allows data transfer with speed 40Gb or 4 times faster.
With the adoption of Thunderbolt 3 and USB C, we can use a USB C cable to connect devices such as monitors and HDMI with USB C.
Other advantages, USB C jack can be inserted without having to fear reversed, unlike USB which can only be connected in one direction.
Changing the USB standard to Thunderbolt 3 and USB C may take a long time. Users using older laptops (with USB standards) also need an adapter to connect it with USB C, so they have to buy new accessories.
