In Year 2021, Smartphone Shipment in the World Translucent 1.9 Billion

Shipments of smartphones in the world is predicted to reach 1.9 billion by 2021. That number is up from this year's prediction of 1.53 billion. Smartphones are also estimated to contribute 92 percent of the total mobile phone market in the world in 2021.

"Although the growth in mobile shipment volume is likely to be stagnant in the next five years, smartphone contributions will continue to increase along with technological developments," said Marina Koytcheva, Vice President of Forecasting at CCS Insight.


That's because triggered by the increased adoption of 4G technology. The CCS Insight research institute estimates 4G smartphone shipments rose to 84 percent by 2020, from 2017 shipment contributing 68 percent.

Meanwhile, the total shipments of mobile phones (smartphones and feature phones) in the world will break 2 billion units this year, up 2 percent from 2016. The number will continue to increase, and total shipments estimated at 10 billion units in the next five years. As reported by Telecom Asia.



In addition, CCS Insight predicts 5G smartphone market will also grow even though this new world is entering the early stages of the fifth generation mobile technology deployment. According to analyst estimates, 5G smartphone shipments reach 100 million units by 2021.


Some countries with the largest 5G markets are North America as well as developing countries in Asia Pacific, such as Japan and South Korea. China will remain the largest market in the world with shipments of 500 million 5G smartphones in 2021.

However, the growth of 5G mobile market will also come from several other countries in Africa, India, and some countries in Southeast Asia in 2021.
