Unproven news circulation aka hoax lately is really unsettling. Moreover, along with the easy access of internet and massive use of social media.

Internet giant Google and Facebook-social networking is also required to help reduce the hoaxes that circulate through both platforms. Then, what is the latest step of these two US technology companies to overcome the circulation of hoaxes?

As quoted from Ubergizmo, Facebook will maximize the ability of "Related Articles" or related articles that had been released in 2013 then.

Just a reminder, Related Articles help users find news articles that are considered to have interesting topics for the user. Related articles are displayed in the News Feed after the user reads an article.

More recently, the social networking of more than 1 billion users is currently testing the latest version of the feature related articles. Facebook will display several news article links with the same topic in order to be used to check the validity of a news. The links of this article will be placed under the news that the user is reading.

In this test, an article link is placed before the user reads an article and does not like now, so that the user can sort out which news source to read.

This effort is made to enable users to get additional information related to a single story. Users can also get news from various viewpoints that may be missed if Facebook does not provide links related to the article.

How Google Minimizes Hoax

Meanwhile, Google announced some changes to the search results. The goal is the same, namely to reduce the circulation of hoax and inappropriate content and provide content from a trusted source.

How to use different algorithms than before. "Our algorithm helps identify trusted news sources from hundreds of billions of sites listed in our index," Google said in its blog.

Also mentioned, of the many content on Google, about 0.25 percent is inappropriate content and hoax and it is not the content that the user wants.

For that reason Google already has an evaluator who evaluates Google search results and provides feedback. Assessment is not determined by the web ranking, but of the quality of the search results.

Previously, Google had updated Search Quality Rater Guidelines that featured examples of low quality web pages and could be categorized as fake news or contained inappropriate content.

In addition, Google also combines hundreds of alerts to determine which search results are trusted. For example the content freshness element to how many user search commands appear on the page.

"We adjust things to help deliver search results in the form of trusted pages and to finalize pages with negative content. The pages that serve hoax content can be reduced," Google wrote on its blog page.
