Commercial advertising often, if not always say, States advantages of a product and try to hide the weakness. The public must be more critical before buying the product so as not to fall victim to the advertisers' sweet ado.

Recently, Which? Magazine identified "ad lies" about battery life on laptops. The battery component is indeed one of the main concerns of the public, so it must be thoroughly tested the truth of its advertising.

No less than 67 laptop models tested Which? Magazine throughout January 2017 to strengthen the results of the analysis.

In testing, Which charges the laptop up to 100 percent. Then, the laptop is used to surf the internet by utilizing a Wi-Fi network or watching videos from the local network. The pattern is repeated continuously until the laptop three times running out of battery.

The result, the average laptop vendor claims battery endurance 50 percent longer than the actual reality. The difference between the time spent on advertising and reality is not just a matter of minutes, but hours.

For example, the Lenovo Yoga 510 battery can be up to 5 hours by advertisement. When tested, endurance is only 2 hours 7 minutes. Similarly, the HP Pavilion 14-al115na battery claimed to be 9 hours old, but only 4 hours 25 minutes.


Dell Inspiron 15 5000 and Acer E15 are just the same. Advertisers call each battery last 7 hours and 6 hours, but only 3 hours 58 minutes and 2 hours 56 minutes.

Among the lies that are far from reality, there is one that is at least honest ie Apple. MacBook Pro 13 is said to last up to 10 hours, when in fact it can be up to 12 hours.

The above samples are the result of specific laptop type analysis from several vendors. Overall, here is the comparison between the ad claims and the reality of each vendor.

Acer claims that the average laptop lasted 7 hours 53 minutes, whereas the average reality is only 5 hours 59 minutes. Asus furthermore claimed average laptop battery can hold 10 hours 12 minutes, but only 6 hours 53 minutes.

Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba are just the same. Among the many brands, at least Lenovo and Acer that the comparison between the talk of advertising and reality is not too far away. However, the most honest is Apple.
